Abstract artist and sculptor Martin Puryear’s work balances the “flatness of picture plane, abstracted seemingly figurative elements, and geometric echoing between elements.” During his early career, Puryear’s sculptures referenced traditional boatbuilding techniques and yurt-like forms. Later he created large, site-specific installations and small-scale works in his studio.
