Artist Winston van der Bok was born in Kalbo, Marrowijne District. He attended the Suriname Academy of Art in the early 1970, and supported himself in his career as an artist and graphic designer. Attended many workshops and courses in these fields throughout the Caribbean.
His own fine art focuses on his indigenous origins. Emphatic borders, the rich use of color and geometric forms are an important component of his work. In addition to small and larger oil paintings, van der Bok also creates watercolours and pen drawings. The artist is a former member of the Waka Tjopu Collective.
