Artist Statement:
I am intrigued by places along America’s coastlines, at the intersection where the land meets sea and sky. My work explores nature’s forces, the changing light, the eternal movement of the sea and reflection of monumental skies. I was born in Chicago, IL but grew up in southern California where I surfed the cold, powerful waves of Pacific Ocean. I now live in the environmentally critical Chesapeake Bay region of the eastern United States and have spent time with my daughters rebuilding houses in New Orleans following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. My lifetime as an artist exploring America’s coastlines impressed on me the beauty, fragility and sometimes awesome, destructive power of nature.
