“My story began after moving my family to a rural part of Pennsylvania. I love Pennsylvania’s landscape and something that makes it even more adorable are the farmlands woven into it. Wherever I look, I see countless shades of green. Rolling hills of crops, rivers, and lakes all around create the perfect sceneries for paintings. This land is a lifetime supply of inspiration for an artist who enjoys this subject. The desire to share the beauty of this land, and tell my story about it, is shown throughout the paintings in this series.”
Samila is Bosnian native, who moved to New York City in 1992 after graduating with a BS in Architecture from the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2005, she enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Arts program at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. After obtaining a BA degree in 2011, she continued her art education at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. In 2014, Samila got her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the Academy of Art and secured the position of Assistant Professor at University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Samila’s passion is to paint Pennsylvania’s landscapes and the farmlands woven into it. Her series, “Rural Beauty,” is about capturing the reflection of lights on the structures of the rural farms. The concept of this series is to capture the diversity of farmlands and architectural structures enhanced by the weather, special light conditions, and seasonal change. Using these structures, she fuses two different careers in her life; architecture and painting.
