Priscilla Coote

Priscilla Coote’s practice reflects a lifelong engagement with the ocean, shaped by her upbringing in New England and nearly thirty years in the Florida Keys, where the intense sunlight and saturated hues define the coastal waters she paints. Coote describes herself as a tonalist in a colorist world. Evident in both her en plein air and studio practice she creates compositions that emphasize mood and atmosphere through careful placement and variations of light and dark hues.

Although she credits nature as her primary teacher, Coote earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art from Westfield State University, Massachusetts, and a Master of Education degree in art from Delta State University, Mississippi. Among her many accomplishments as an artist, Coote is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and has been featured in publications such as Fine Art Connoisseur and Southwest Art. Her work is represented by galleries in Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, and France.
