Artist Peter Rudolph works only from nature and prefers to paint exclusively outdoors. “It seems antithetical to make a studio painting when you live on an island. To me, it’s really all about painting, not about picture making,” he said. With loose brushstrokes and bright pallets, his paintings showcase an expressionistic sense of immediacy and energy. Most of his works depict the landscapes of Isleford, Maine, where Rudolph spends his summers.
Peter Rudolph earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Tyler School of Art and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia. Rudolph taught at the Germantown Friends School, also in Philadelphia. When he is not
painting, he works as an art dealer in Philadelphia through the McClees Galleries, specializing in European and early American Art.
