“Extensive European travel has greatly influenced my loosely brushed impressionistic style favored by many collectors. My closest influence is Van Gogh; I admire his direct method of painting and his courage to be true to himself.
I used to paint what I saw; now I paint what I feel. I have been fortunate enough to visit the asylum at Saint-Remy where Van Gogh lived and painted. I stood in his room and put my hands on the windowsill where he looked out on grain fields, olive trees and lavender. It changed my life. It gave me the courage to paint as I see things, which one gallery owner said was somewhere between “cubism, abstraction and reality.” I believe my talent is seeing beauty in things others may overlook.”
