Judith Larsenʼs work incorporates the figure as an empty vessel which is then infused with a series of images from the History of Art and Science. The projected transparencies reference deep-time cultural markers, including language, mapping diagrams and pattern-making over a 20,000 year span. The final symbolically clad figures are a testament to the enduring vitality of the flesh and its fragile impermanence.
Larsen has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Education from Tufts University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Boston Museum School. She has taught painting, drawing, design and computer techniques for artists at Wellesley College, the Boston Architectural Center, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Mass. College of Art and Harvard University. She has exhibited widely in the Boston area, as well as nationally and internationally, and is represented in numerous collections, including the DeCordova Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Graham Gund and Stephen D. Paine Collection. Larsen is the Art Editor for the Harvard Review and a member of the Board of Governors for the Boston Museum School. She is currently represented by Eli Klein Fine Art New York/Beijing and by Artforum Newgate in Seoul, South Korea.
