I was born in the Bronx, New York and attended The Art Students League in NYC on scholarship for four years. There I met, fellow artist, Diane Leon. We married in 1979 and continue to create and share our life together.
My art is in a response to images and the history of prehistoric cultures. I have always had a fascination of the ancient world. This fascination manifests itself in the way I handle form, color and space. My influences come from architecture, film, music (world cultures and jazz) and Spain. A part of my studies at The Fashion Institute of Technology, I created jewelry in wax and metal. The basis of my work is from natural forms other cultures.
My work has been chosen twice by the Art in Embassies Program, US Department of State. In 2002 I had three works at the US Embassy in Estonia and in 2006 I had three other works at the US Embassy in Amman, Jordan. In July 2008, Diane and I were featured in The Queens Courier, “Queens Artists’ work hang in U.S. Embassies” by Marianne Nash.
I work in oils, acrylic and collage. I use vestiges of the past as symbols to embody the human spirit in a contemporary vision.
My work has been featured in galleries and private collections in New York and Spain. It has also been featured in The Village Voice, NYC; Informacion de Alicante and LaVanguardia in Spain.
