James Griffin has spent most of his life working as an artist. By age ten, Griffin knew he wanted to pursue a career in art. He credits his mother, who studied art at McGill University, as the first to recognize his ability and encourage his artistic pursuits. Griffin describes his art as grounded in realism while also incorporating abstract elements. He writes, “Throughout my life, I have straddled different worlds and cultures from ‘high art’ to pop culture.” He is proud to bring a lifetime of looking at and creating art into what he calls, “the momentary world of present-day culture.”
Griffin earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute in New York and has lived and worked in many different parts of the United States, as well as Canada, Peru, the United Kingdom, and Brazil. Griffin now resides in Tennessee and he and his wife Debbie own and operate the Griffin Art Gallery in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
