Harold Gregor

Harold Gregor, Ph.D. and Distinguished Professor of Art, Emeritus, Illinois State University, Normal , IL. is regarded as one of the renowned landscape painters and watercolorists in the US today. He has been dubbed “Dean of the Heartland Painters.” He received National Endowment of the Arts grants, an NEA Midwest Fellowship award, Lifetime Achievement awards from both the National Watercolor Honor Society and the Illinois Academy of Fine Arts. Art books, magazines, important corporate & private collections feature his work. Galleries in New York, Chicago, Santa Fe, and Milwaukee represent him.

Gregor interprets the Midwest landscape in five ways- 1) Realistic (Photorealism) farm scenes, 2) Flatscapes –uniquely colorful aerial views, 3) Trailscapes-Impressionistic scenes of a tree-lined trail, and 4) Vibrascapes- vibrant, fanciful lands.

In spite of resrictions that no living artists’works appear on the first floor of the White House, President Barack Obama placed Gregor’s IL Landscape #120 in the Oval Office Private Dining for fourteen months (2009-2010). Now the painting resides in Illinois Senator Dick Durbin’s Washington, DC office.
