Considered “one of the outstanding palette knife artists of the United States,” Harold Harrington Betts was a landscape and portrait painter best known for his impressionistic, colorful renditions of the American Southwest. He also painted early twentieth century celebrities, namely Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and Henry Ford; all three of their large-scale portraits were displayed together at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. Betts would create his paintings from life and from photographs over several hours.
