Glenn Ligon

For over three decades, Glenn Ligon has pursued an incisive exploration of American history and society through text-based photographs, paintings, and neon sculptures, often invoking the writings and speeches of cultural figures such as James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, and Richard Pryor. His politically provocative works contain subject matter that ranges widely from the Million Man March and the aftermath of slavery to 1970s coloring books and photography.
