

Fred Garbers was an abstract painter who worked in oil, pastels, and collage. He was born and raised in New York City, where he studied at the Art Students League and the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. To support his fine arts career, Garbers worked as an animator on the children’s educational television program Sesame Street. In 2006, he was the recipient of a prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant for painting. His work is held in the collections of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, Massachusetts; the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; and numerous private collections.
