“These paintings each present a complex moment. One, an afternoon’s happiness in the face of stormy weather; the other, a fireworks stand as it erupts after being struck by lightning. Both paintings suggest that what the viewer sees will soon change. In this way the paintings both celebrate the flow of time and attempt to hold one instant, prevent it from being forever lost.”
