Felix Vidal Chacon

Félix Vidal Chacón is a distinguished painter and engraver renowned for his evocative depictions of traditional handcarts, or “carretas.” His artistic journey commenced between 1981 and 1986 at the Universidad Popular in Guatemala, where he studied under esteemed mentors such as Rodolfo Galiotti Torres, Enrique Anleu Díaz, and Isabel Ruiz, focusing on drawing, painting, and engraving, particularly in xilography.

Chacón’s work is deeply rooted in the cultural and social landscapes of Guatemala. The recurring motif of the handcart in his art serves as a powerful symbol, transitioning from poetic representations to poignant commentaries on human experiences, including themes of violence and injustice. In his compositions, the handcart often embodies human forms, articulating narratives of suffering and resilience.

Throughout his prolific career, Chacón has held over 20 solo exhibitions in prominent Guatemalan galleries, including Galería El Túnel, Museo Ixchel, and Galería Fórum. His participation in numerous collective exhibitions extends his influence beyond national borders, with showcases in Mexico, Denmark, and the United States, notably at the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).
