After years of experimenting with different styles and mediums, Erin Hanson was inspired to dedicate herself solely to landscape painting when she began rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas. Hanson regularly explores the outdoors for inspiration, backpacking and hiking through areas such as the Colorado Plateau; Zion National Park, Utah; and Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Arizona. For the past decade, she has honed a technique she called “open impressionism,” a method that involves applying thick paint strokes without layering, emphasizing brilliant color and texture.
