Eamon Ore-Giron’s practice explores cultural and artistic intersections: how art movements of the past century inform the present, how European modernism speaks to Latin American modernism, and how pan-Americanism may or may not bridge North and South America. With his own cache of influences, he is unrestricted and inclusive, drawing comparisons with Cuban American minimalist Carmen Herrera, Bauhaus professor Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, abstract painter and theorist Wassily Kandinsky, and Bolivian architect Freddy Mamani. Further, as an artist he works not only in painting, but in sculpture, video, sound, and collaborative performances—the CDs and dubplates from his music-making serving as templates in his paintings.
Based in Los Angeles and Guadalajara, Ore-Giron earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the San Francisco Art Institute and his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. His work is part of the public collections at the Hammer Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States, Mexico, Denmark, Egypt, Portugal, and Spain.
