Diane Burko’s works in painting, photography, and time-based media confront the growing impact of the climate crisis on the environment. Often in close collaboration with scientists, Burko seeks to illustrate the delicate balance between devastation and beauty in compromised landscapes. Her practice “seeks to visually emulsify interconnected subjects—extraction, deforestation, extinction, environmental justice, indigenous genocide, ecological degradation, climate collapse—so viewers might feel their connection viscerally; so that the connection becomes impossible to ignore.”
