A well-traveled artist for his time period, Dey de Ribkowsky was born in Bulgaria and at age 13 began art studies in Paris and then continued in Florence, Italy and St. Petersburg, Russia. From there he went to Buenos Aires, where in 1904, he founded the Academy of Beaux Arts.
In 1910, he came to the United States and traveled extensively throughout the country including Arizona where he painted the Grand Canyon. In the 1920s, he settled in California, and died in Los Angeles.
