Light plays a big part in what Daisy Craddock calls the “psychology of painting.” Enormous spreading branches framed by light over water are an almost primal image for her. Craddock states: “I’ve always felt tremendously challenged by great
Southern literature, and I think that we’re just beginning to find
its visual equivalent.”
In a style reminiscent of Impressionism, Craddock often paints subjects in groups of three “partly to explore a different light or atmosphere, a different state of mind.” Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1949, Daisy Craddock earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rhodes College, Memphis, in 1971, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia, Athens, in 1973.
