The art of Chevelle Makeba Moore Jones has been extensively exhibited in solo and group shows, including Washington Project for the Arts (WPA), Arlington Arts Center, VA, Maryland Art Place (MAP), District of Columbia Arts Center (DCAC), Zoller Arts Center, Pennsylvania State University, Government House, Annapolis, MD, Evergreen House, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, Woman Made Gallery, Chicago, IL, and Camille Love Gallery, Atlanta, GA.
Absolut Vodka commissioned Chevelle to produce an ‘Absolut Moore,’ for its prestigious collection in 1997. The ABSOLUT EXPRESSIONS Collection traveled to the Museum for African Art, NY, Painted Bride Art Center, PA, Dell Pryor Galleries, MI, Woodruff Arts Center, GA, and venues in Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles. The Absolut artist’s creation was featured as one of the best of their colection, in its 20th Anniverary exhibition in New York, 2000.
The Baltimore Museum of Art’s Joshua Johnston Council invited Chevelle to give a lecture on her work at the museum in June 2001. She has been a guest artist at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, MD. 1997, Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA. 1998, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA. 1992. Ms. Moore Jones has also been a Advisory Panelist for Grants to Arts Organizations, Visual Arts Panel, and a Strategic Planning steering committee member, for the Maryland State Arts Council, Baltimore, MD. 2000, 2001.
Chevelle is the recipient of a number of awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in 1996, and Individual Artist Awards from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2000, 1998, 1996, and 1991. The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Art and Culture has also recognized her work with CityArts grants in 1992, 1991, 1990, and 1989, and a mural commision, executed in south Baltimore, in 1988. her paintings are included in the collections of Absolut vodka, Stockholm, Sweden, The City of Baltimore, Charles L. Benton Building, Baltimore, MD., Harford Community College, Bel Air, MD., Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, Baltimore, MD., ancd numerous private collectors. A lifelong Maryland resident, Chevelle received a B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1985.
