Boaz Aharonovitch

The Israeli artist Boaz Aharonovitch, born 1970 in Tel Aviv, lives and works in Tel Aviv. He studied photography at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Besides solo exhibitions in Israel his works were presented in numerous international group shows in Japan and the U.S. He is a recipient of the Creative Support Prize of the Israeli Ministry of Culture such as well as the Sharett Scholarship Programm.

Boaz Aharonovitchs large-scale works are the often the final product of a complex and intense exploration of the limits of the photographic medium. His works evolve out of a daily routine and long-term projects such as „growing a garden for an unknown lover“ or innumerable layers of photographs. Aharonovitch combines historical images with his own material and creates works that border on realism yet remaining completely abstract in their details. His works revolves around themes such as the limits of photography, the impossibility to capture time and questions in the context of our fascination for photographs and weather we take an active part in observing images or if we are mostly possessed by them.
