Benjamin Altenes

“When I joined the Army in 1998, I knew I wanted to capture my travels as a visual journal. I remembered my Grandfather telling me stories of his childhood and his stories of his experience in the U.S. Navy while serving on the USS Salt Lake City during WW2. I did what he did but recorded it with a camera, and photography became an addiction.

I was raised an Air Force Brat and traveled the world in my younger years. With my years in the Military and deployments to the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq, I started to capture more and more. At some point, I realized that I wasn’t only creating a journal, but I was telling a story through images. This is what I want to do with every image I take now. I want a friend, stranger, child or even a customer/consumer to be pulled into it and to feel it.”
