Anca Bodea seeks to express her generation’s state of mind through life-size fragmented portraits. Often situated in a vague, undefined space, her sitters seem to be suspended in a state of waiting, resigned to their own fates. Bodea paradoxically counters her precise drawing, detailed textures, and occasionally strong coloration with raw, unfinished elements.
Bodea studied at the Art and Design University in Cluj. In 2003, she received an Erasmus grant to study at the Institute des Beaux Arts in Liege, Belgium, and was awarded the Vasile Parvan scholarship from 2006-2008 at the Accademia di Romania in Rome.
