Born in Managua, Nicaragua, Alex has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Spain. Primarily a visual artist, he works in a number of disciplines, ranging from drawing and photography to installations that incorporate video, neon, and “green” architectural elements. Before receiving his Master’s, Alex studied for two years at the Art Institute of Florence, Italy, where he double majored in Studio Art and History of the Renaissance. For the last six summers he has taught Art through the Ages, Architectural History, and visual art classes at Putney’s Excel Oxford/Tuscany, Excel Madrid/Barcelona, and Excel Amherst College Programs. He taught on Foundations in 2010. He currently lives in Chicago, where he teaches art at North Shore Country Day School. In his spare time, Alex enjoys making art, playing musical instruments, and visiting his favorite architectural sites. He is a native Spanish speaker.
