Throughout her practice, Acquaetta Williams has utilized a variety of mediums—such as glass, paper, canvas, and wood—to create artworks inspired by stories of African American women. Her art career took off after receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin and taking courses at the Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, Washington. Williams traveled around Benin on an arts international travel grant to collect materials and study African subjects for her art. She was artist-in-residence at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop and was an associate member of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
