Inspired by skies and clouds, Andris’ work encourages viewers to reflect on the beauty constantly above. Tara would be the first to admit how easy it can be to get lost in day-to-day worries and anxieties, but she finds great comfort in reflecting on her surroundings. During her study of art history, Tara was struck by notions of the sublime and comforted by the use of art to remind us that we’re each one small part of a much larger picture. Tara hopes that through her work viewers are inspired to look at their surroundings in a new way.
By incorporating metal leaf into her work – usually covering the entire surface before applying paint – Tara mimics the depth and reflectiveness of the ever-changing sky.
Tara’s paintings have been featured on many well-established blogs, including Jenny Komenda’s Juniper Studio, A Piece of Toast, and that of Anthology Magazine. Andris holds a Master’s of Science in Education from Bank Street College of Education’s Leadership in Museum Education program, as well as a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in both painting and art history from the University of Kansas. In addition to her work as an artist, Andris has enjoyed a career in museum education, with previous roles at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. Andris’ painting is informed by her education and work as a Museum Educator, which further cemented the drive to make art accessible to all audiences. She is driven in both fields to create a bridge between the art and the viewer, ensuring that all audiences consider their interpretations and interests valid and valuable. Andris lives and works in Maryland just outside of DC.
