Tina Hejtmanek

Tina Hejtmanek creates photographic images that are imbued with a powerful sense of place. She records what she sees on her travels around the United States and her images, she says, “distill the natural world into painterly explorations of mark, hue, light and form and examine the peripheries of impermanence.” The soft, hazy quality of her photographs succeeds in evoking impermanence while also suggesting a dreamlike world. Furthermore, there is a distinct sense of nostalgia in her works that recalls the longing that goes hand-in-hand with travel and distance: a longing for newness and adventure, for an idealized world, and for a lost past. The fact that she photographs real places in an ethereal style evokes the contradictory sensations of concrete reality and a fantastical dream world. Her pieces allow these contradictory forms to become one.

Hejtmanek studied at Tufts University, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in Massachusetts, and at Parsons School of Design in New York. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions around the world. She lives and works in New York City.
