Josette Urso has participated in numerous artist residency programs including American Artist’s Abroad: AIEP in Cambodia, Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ireland, Camargo Foundation in France, Loft Nota Bene in Spain, Millay Colony in NY, Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Germany, Stock 20 in Taiwan, Ucross Foundation in Wyoming, VCCA in VA, Weir Farm Trust in CT and Yaddo in NY.
Josette is also the recipient of fellowships including a Gottlieb Foundation award and two Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants. She has received The Basil H. Alkazzi Painting Award, a Mid-Atlantic NEA, grants from Art Matters, Inc. and The Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation as well as an Individual Artists Fellowship from the Florida State Arts Council. She also participated in the Bronx Museum’s A.I. M. Program.
She has taught extensively and participated as a visiting artist, at Cooper Union in New York City, Art New England at Bennington College in Vermont, Chautauqua School of Art in upstate New York and at other venues including University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Montclair State University in NJ, Savannah College of Art and Design in GA and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada. She also participated on a collage panel at the College Art Association conference in Dallas, Texas.
Josette’s paintings, drawings and collages are included in numerous public and private collections and have been exhibited in over 50 one-person exhibitions and in more than 250 group shows around the world. Gallery representation includes Markel Fine Arts in New York City and Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Kent, CT.
She received her MFA/Painting and BFA/Drawing from the University of South Florida and currently works in Brooklyn.
