Omar D’Leon is one of the most acclaimed Nicaraguan painters of the twentieth century. He belongs to the first generation of modern artists to emerge from Bellas Artes, the national school of fine arts. There he studied for nine years under the direction of Rodrigo Penalba, the renowned “father” of Nicaraguan modern art. D’Leon’s work can be found worldwide in many public collections including those of the National Bank of Nicaragua, Managua; Duke University, Durham, North Carolina; the Ponce Museum of Art, Puerto Rico; the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, California; and the Cuevas Museum, Mexico City.
