Using the “golden section”—a harmonious use of space employed by many Old Masters—to achieve his compositions, Nolan P. Benner Jr. incorporated intense, bold brushstrokes with vivid colors in his acrylic and oil impressionist landscapes. Benner Jr. often began each painting with a twelve by six-inch study either completed onsite or referenced from photographs. “I really feel a compulsion to paint. It gives me a feeling of accomplishment. It’s very satisfying to create something that didn’t exist before,” he said.
