Alex Puz

Alex Puz is a painter whose systemic approach to color and line results in dense, ornate
chromatic compositions. In his practice, Puz draws on optics, color study, and linear
abstraction to explore the gap between emotional and cognitive processes. Building his
paintings layer by layer, he crafts slanted networks of intersecting stripes using tape and
masking fluid. Once complete, these color-modulated lines coalesce to form fluid moiré
patterns which oscillate between the geometric and the organic. This meticulous yet
unpredictable process yields magnetic illusions capable of igniting viewers’ cognitive and
perceptual centers. By distorting perceptual boundaries, his paintings give rise to a
conscious awareness of the combined psychological and physical effects of visual
stimulation. Whether intimate in scale or more expansive, Puz’s undulating lines perform a compelling dual gesture: drawing the viewer inward while simultaneously projecting
energetically beyond the edges of the canvas. In this way, he cultivates a sense of perpetual evolution, offering generative reflections on the impacts of color on emotional experience.
