David Newell

David McCheyne Newell was an author, illustrator, naturalist, and journalist whose career was shaped by his passion for outdoor sports and travel. As a young man, he sought out remote and dangerous expeditions, starting with a project for the U.S. Biological Survey for which he hunted predatory animals in Arizona. In 1930, he embarked on an eight-month exploration of Brazil’s jungles, where he used the relatively new medium of radio to send live reports of his findings to the New York Times’s wireless station.
