Although highly respected as independent artists, twin brothers Stuart and Scott Gentling also fostered a collaborative partnership that resulted in some of their most acclaimed work. They are perhaps best known for their compendium, Of Birds and Texas, a limited-edition portfolio of fifty lithographs, published in 1986. The set of mammoth prints pays homage to nineteenth-century artist-naturalist traditions. The brothers traveled hundreds of miles birdwatching and mortgaged their home to complete the project. Their enormous undertaking has provided an invaluable contribution, both scientific and artistic, to the understanding of Texas’s flora and fauna.
