A resident of New Orleans, Simon Gunning paints urban vistas of the Mississippi River and nature scenes of Louisiana’s wetlands that are tinged with romantic
empathy. Combining en plein air with studio practice, he conjures the gritty atmosphere and majestic presence of his subjects with hyper-realistic detail. His works have appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad, including at the Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, Oklahoma; the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida; and the Davenport Museum of Art, Iowa; and can be found in the collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art, Louisiana, among many others.
