Sangram Majumdar

Born in Calcutta India, Sangram Majumdar moved to the US at a young age. Following his high school education, he applied to two art schools at a whim at the last possible moment, and decided to pursue art seriously, and leave his other interests of computers, and writing temporarily.

He thus moved across the country to Providence, RI, to study at the Rhode Island School of Design. During his time there, he tried his hand at illustration, did an internship at a 3D design firm, created web sites, and studied abroad in Rome, Italy. Following his time at RISD, he moved to study painting at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. During this time, he also began teaching, and after receiving his MFA was awarded a fellowship that allowed him to return to Italy, this time in Florence. He then began teaching at the University of WI-Eau Claire. Since 2003, he has joined the full time painting faculty at MICA where he works with undergraduate students, from freshmen to seniors, and frequently with those in the post-baccalaureate program.

He has exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally in one man and group shows. Most recently he was part of an exhibition at the Museum of Art in Rochefort-en-Terre, France where he spent the summer drawing as part of the Alfred and Trafford Klotts Residency Program, as well as being included in a drawing exhibition at the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art in Nagoya, Japan. He is represented by Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago.
