Ry Rocklen

Ry Rocklen’s work paradoxically conveys a simultaneous respect for the now-canonized Duchampian sculptural tradition countered by a radical rejection of any art historical constraints. Collecting cast-off objects from the streets, dumps, or thrift stores, Rocklen refines and assembles his findings into readymade sculptures charged with a unique opulence and delicacy, reincarnating each object into a new, artistic existence.
Rocklen’s work was included in the 2008 Whitney Biennial and the 2011 exhibition Greater LA. He has held solo exhibitions throughout the US, Europe, and Asia and is included in Made in L.A. exhibition at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. He received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California and Bachelor of Arts from UCLA.
