Addressing the basic elements and principles of design, Robert Stickloon’s realist and pop-art-inspired paintings largely focus on everyday objects. Instructed as an art student to “look no further than his immediate environment” for artistic inspiration, Stickloon continues to paint what he sees and knows. “I’ve learned that the more specific I endeavor to be in rendering [my subjects] graphically, the more universal they appear. Hopefully, viewers of my work will be reminded of the accumulation of things in their own surroundings and these objects become more significant in helping them to understand how their selections of what they choose to enhance their immediate space serve to portray who they are, just as my ‘stuff’ is a kind of self-portrait,” he says.
