Phil Garrett

Phil Garrett did his undergraduate work at the University of South Carolina, and the Honolulu Academy, studying under Renowned Printmaker Gabor Peterdi. He received his BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1974. His work is in numerous public and private collections in the USA, Europe and Japan including the State Collections of South Carolina and Hawaii. His painting FALLS ON REEDY IV is hanging in the US Embassy in Bucharest, Romania as part of the Art in Embassies Program. He is represented by Hodges-Taylor Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina and has completed numerous artists’ residencies, taught painting, mural painting, printmaking, and watermedia, in regional, national and international venues. He joined the Golden Artist Colors Working Artist Program in 1999 and in October 2005 and 2006 and 2008 he lectured and taught workshops on Acrylic Painting Methods in Art Schools in the cities of Osaka, Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Fukuoka Japan sponsored by Golden Acrylic and Turner company of Osaka.

My Work is informed by nature, a kind of mythical nature. The power of storms, the spiritual quality of the elements, the beauty, grace and ferocity of plants and animals… Something greater than myself, something I can’t comprehend. Painting and making monotypes is my search for the mystery within the subject, within myself.
