Michael Polakowski

In his paintings, Michael Polakowski juxtaposes intimate scenes from his daily life with metaphysical, emotionally charged motifs, creating a body of work he defines as “absurdist surrealism.” In these compositions, bucolic views of the American Midwest are disrupted by jarring or menacing details such as broken shards of glass, precariously positioned blades, or abandoned cars, while figures are eerily absent or portrayed as oversized or having dramatically cropped hands and feet. Using predominantly vibrant shades of pink, blue, green, and violet, the artist achieves a sleek, otherworldly quality through skillful application of acrylic and airbrush paints.
