Lisa McShane

Lisa captures the sweeping landscapes of the American west with a focus on the places she loves best: the Palouse, coulees, eroded hills and roads of Eastern Washington and the lakes and rivers of Western Washington. Her deeply layered and glazed luminous oil paintings capture a profound love of the wide-open land. The abstracted, graphic and light-filled world she creates is exactly how she sees the world.

She was born in Victorville, California but her family has deep roots in the wheat country of southeast Washington. Her cousin still grows winter wheat on the plateau their great-grandparents settled; her father’s family owned orchards on the Columbia River. Because her father was in the Air Force, her most vivid memories are of the black ribbon of road unfurling through the fields, mesas and mountains of the west on the way back home.

Lisa worked in environmental policy and politics for years, focused on conserving Washington’s most important lands. She continues to travel throughout the west and you can see her love of the open road, big sky and sweeping fields in her paintings. She lives with her family in an 1892 house in Bellingham, Washington where she paints full-time.
