Lindsay Walt

I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1978 with a BFA, Honors. During the summer of 1977, I received a fellowship to Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture where I was awarded the Sculpture Prize. Graduate studies followed at the Art Institute of Chicago (MFA in 1982). I received a fellowship for the MacDowell Colony in 1994.

Shortly after graduate school, I moved to New York City where I’ve lived and worked since as a practicing professional artist. I have taught and lectured on my work at various schools including Middlebury College, Hofstra College, School of Visual Arts, Bennington College and Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania.

My work has been included in numerous group shows throughout the country including John Michael Kohler Art Center, Wisconsin, Leslie Heller Gallery, NYC, Vedanta Gallery, Chicago, Barbara Toll Gallery, NYC and Shoshana Wayne Gallery, L.A.

In addition, I have exhibited large-scale site-specific installations at the Grey Art Gallery, NYU the University of Northern Illinois in DeKalb), Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island, Woodlawn Cemetery, NY and Art Resources Transfer, NYC.

Solo exhibitions include Barbara Toll Fine Arts, NYC, the Christian A. Johnson Memorial Gallery at Middlebury College, Art Resources Transfer, NYC, Domo Gallery in, N.J. and, most recently at Metaphor Contemporary Art in Brooklyn.

Selected collections include the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, Samuel P. Harm Museum of Art, Gainesville, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Chase Manhattan Bank, New York. N.Y., Progressive Insurance Company, Ohio, Prudential Insurance Co., New York, Amerada Hess, New York, Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett, New York, the New York Public Library, New York and Yale University.

My studio is in the Brooklyn Navy Yard where I enjoy the extraordinary view and light afforded by the East River.
