Kurt Meer says of his work that he “documents the effects of living on the human form, the immediacy of physical presence.” He believes that paintings “should not be construed as anachronistic [because] they are an expression of an artist’s
empathy for the existential stupor of living.” For Meer, there is no other option than to explore and express in his paintings the subtleties of emotional and intellectual life.
Meer received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996. He has won various awards, including the 1999 Best in Painting Award, Arts in the Park, Memphis.
