A mix of playful and serious content, Katy Kidd’s paintings layer objects against adapted landscapes, using imagery she has collected in her travels. According to one critic, her work juxtaposes “a certain deliberate flatness reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s Brillo Boxes which play with two- and three-dimensional allusions in Pop Art, with street art sensibility as direct as the ‘Smack!’ and ‘Pow!” She has said, “These paintings are my response to the social and environmental issues facing more than 80% of the world’s population.”
