“I use abstraction as a vehicle to think about my relationship to the world around me. Through my work I contemplate the underlying networks and relationships upon which social reality is built. We are each nodes of subjectivity within an ever-expanding network of dizzying complexity,” says Justin Bean. In his paintings, he contemplates the relationship between feeling and thought, along with accident and intention, but also to a greater extent much of his oeuvre echoes aspects of anthropology, infrastructure, technology, science fiction, and “imagined histories of the future of humanity.”
