Painter John D. Cogan’s naturalistic landscapes capture the unique splendor of the American Southwest. To bring the region’s brilliant colors and transient light effects to life, he balances thin layers of underpainting with thick finishes of rich acrylic pigments. Explaining his decision to pursue art after earning advanced degrees in physics, Cogan said, “The majesty of the mountains and the depths and beauty of the canyons…inspired me.”
