Jill Basham

Contemporary Landscape Artist, Jill Basham, was born in Washington DC and raised in Columbia, MD. Basham comes from a family with a multi-generational history of artists. She grew up with an interest in art, yet it was not until later in adulthood that she began oil painting. Once she began, she never looked back. Known for her atmospheric landscapes, she primarily paints in plein air (on location), but also works in her studio. Basham now resides near the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and has a strong appreciation for the local landscape, but is attracted to any scene that sparks an emotional response. Basham is inspired by the work of the California Impressionists, including William Wendt and Edgar Payne, and has been taught through workshops or classes by contemporary masters such as Ken Auster and Gavin Brooks.
Basham has been honored to participate in, and win awards in both local and national Plein Air Events and Art Shows. More recently, she won Third in Plein Air Easton! 2012. Presently her work is hanging in the United States Embassy in Colombo, Sri Lanka, through the US State Departments “Art In Embassies” program. Basham is an Artist Member of The Salmagundi Club, NYC, American Impressionist Society, American Women Artists, OPA, The Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and The Working Artists Forum.
