An artist, college art teacher and eco-feminist, Culbertson drew her Myth- maker series (1974) to confirm the woman heroine as an active protagonist saving the world. This series of 20 works now in the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. In 1978, Culbertson worked on the Great Goddess issue of Heresies, and in 1979 proposed, with Lucy Lippard and others the Heresies Feminist and Ecology issue, for which Culbertson was a panel member, Women’s World Ecology Convention, and in 1990 wrote an article for and contributed images to the Canadian magazine Gallerie: Women Artists. Culbertson earned a B.F.A. from Carnegie-Mellon University (1953) and her M.A. from New York University (1964)
