“While I have studied art most of my life, I have focused all of my professional activity on painting, only since I moved to Washington, D.C., in 1990 (For twenty years before that, I had worked as a full-time writer, primarily doing interview and lifestyle pieces for various publications in New York City.). My years as a writer continue, I believe, to influence my painting. When painting a picture, with either words or a brush, I begin by absorbing information. Through some inexplicable process, that information is filtered through me and my interpretation emerges. For the last few years now, the principle theme of my painting has been an exploration of Washington. As a writer taking notes, I do pencil sketches and mixed media studies of cityscapes, café life, and my husband and friends in their various environments. In my studio, working from these studies, I paint large oil canvases designed to capture the essence of the world around me.”
Ingrid Lane holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Pennsylvania State University. Subsequently, she studied at The Nieves Marschalek Billmyer School of Art, New York City, and The Washington Studio School. She has participated in several exhibitions in the greater Washington, D.C., area, where her work can also be found in private collections.
